Straddling
an area of some 15000 sq kilometres in the Limpopo Province, the
Waterberg is unmatched in its beauty. From soaring craggy
mountain heights on the southern escarpment with the Seven
Sisters guarding the northern grasslands, to the eastern
buttresses of spectacular rock formations rising out of sheer
emptiness - within this wonderland, Makweti Safari Lodge finds
its home
The five individual stone and thatch suites combine the
elegance of the past with all essential modern conveniences.
Each suite has a sense of seclusion offering indoor and outdoor
showers; a Victorian bathtub and warm log fires for cool winter
evenings. Each suite offers spectacular vistas of the African
bushveld. Candlelit gourmet dinners are served in a formal
dining room, or on the deck overlooking the Makweti Gorge or
under a starry night sky in the boma by a flickering campfire.
Makweti’s cuisine reflects an artful fusion of exotic spices
of ancient trade routes, home made soups, game meats and a wide
assortment of health conscious choices. Fine South African
estate wines from our cellars and exquisite desserts complement
every dinner.
Makweti offers 38 000 hectares of highveld woodland
savannah. The undulating landscape is home to a diversity
of game seldom-encountered on safari in Southern Africa.
16 species of antelope, including sable, gemsbok and eland–
the largest collection of privately owned white rhino – lion,
leopard, buffalo, elephant and the spectacular elegance of the
cheetah. The endangered brown hyena is often encountered, as
well as the rare aard wolf.
